The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars forward Sean Avery indefinitely, pending a hearing with commissioner Gary Bettman.<br><br>The Stars' super-pest is being suspended for disparaging remarks he made this morning in reference to Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf and Phaneuf's girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, who previously had a relationship with Avery.<br><br>"I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada," Avery said on camera this morning in Calgary. "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."<br><br>Avery's hearing will take place in accordance with the NHL Constitution, for conduct "detrimental to the League or game of hockey," the NHL announced.

went back and got video of the following incident:<br><br>"Phil Jackson and Bryant have been forced recently by reporters to relive the past feuds with ONeal in advance of another meeting with him Thursday night in Phoenix. The experience served Jackson and Bryant well, because they were totally cool in dealing with Ariza and Vujacic.<br><br>The discord arose after Ariza had the ball under the basket and passed it out to Vujacic on the wing. Rather than move it back to Ariza or another teammate, Vujacic just held it for a beat and then launched a 3-pointer out of the flow.<br><br>The shot missed badly, and Vujacic was soon called for a foul, leading to an automatic timeout with 8:37 left in the second quarter.<br><br>Thats when Ariza got in Vujacics face and stayed there as the players walked from the far corner of the court back toward the Lakers bench. Bryant shepherded Ariza toward the end of the bench and stood in his way while Ariza, who has a temper that his furtive demeanor belies, remained so keyed up that he just kept pacing.<br><br>Jackson benched both Ariza and Vujacic. As play was resuming, Jackson did something he never does: He left his usual area and walked to the end of the bench to address the matter directly with Ariza."

Back in February, SI's Chris Ballard wrote a story about a post-Wizards era Michael Jordan that received a bit of attention. As the story went, some mutual fund CEO named John Rogers Jr. had beaten Jordan in a game of one-on-one at the legend's high-end "Flight School" camp in Las Vegas. One of the craziest plays Sunday happened in the third quarter when Andrew Whitworth and Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson were ejected from the game.<br><br>“We had gotten in a tussle after a run play and he came up and took a shot at the back of my head," Whitworth recapped. "Levi (Jones) was screaming at the refs for a flag. And when he stood up, he pushed me again in my facemask, and the ref still didn’t throw anything. So on the next play, he wanted me, I wanted him, and he kind of ‘swam’ me. I just pushed him past the quarterback and he fell to the ground, but he held onto my facemask and ripped my helmet off.”<br><br>Henderson got Whitworth in a headlock, while trying gouge out Whitworth's eyes. “He was digging in my face pretty good. I was trying to get his hands out of my face in case he ripped my eyeballs out.”<br><br>Marvin Lewis didn't endorse trying to save one's eyes from being "ripped out". “The hard thing there, and the thing that you have to do as a professional player, is walk away. There is no retaliation on an NFL football field. You have to walk away. Let him get the penalty, let him get kicked out of the game."<br><br>In our view, it's ridiculous that Whitworth was ejected, clearly defending himself from turd-like antics of Henderson. Because the refs have to keep some control of the game together, and since typically retaliation is always a sure-fire towards escalation, we can understand the personal foul.<br><br>Furthermore, we think that Marvin Lewis is dead wrong condemning Whitworth's actions, who was clearly defending himself. Whitworth felt he had no choice. “In that situation, I don’t know what else you can do as a player if a guy’s got his fingers digging in your face. It’s either, OK, I’m going to get fined or in trouble or this guy’s potentially going to ruin my career. So I had to defend myself there,”

Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who started on the pole position, received a setback at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday after driving off from a pit stop with a fuel rig still attached to his car.<br><br>The hose tore off its mooring, spewing gasoline in the air and lashing a crew member who fell to the ground as the Ferrari drove away, less than 50 minutes into the race.<br><br>After realizing the error, Massa stopped further down in the pit with the hose trailing behind him, as stunned crew members rushed to help.<br><br>Having lost precious time, Massa rejoined the race in 18th position, wrecking what until then had been a perfect race from the pole. He had been well in front of championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who started second.<br><br>The Brazilian was given a drive-through penalty for unsafe release because he almost collided with another car while leaving the pit with the hose.<br><br>The mechanic who was brought down by the snaking hose was carried away on a stretcher for a checkup at the on-track medical center.<br><br>In other incidents, Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr. crashed against a side protective barrier, while Ruben Barrichello found his Honda stopping suddenly.<br>Piquet was apparently unhurt, climbing out of his wrecked car before dashing across the track to get out through an opening. Barrichello also found his way out of the track to mingle with spectators and shake their hands.

England have drawn 2-2 against the Czech Republic in a friendly international at Wembley.<br><br>Joe Cole's scrambled goal rescued John Terry's side from defeat after they twice fell behind.<br><br>Milan Baros put the visitors in front in the first half, before Wes Brown's leveller.<br><br>England looked to be heading for defeat when Marek Jankulovski curled a free-kick beyond David James.<br><br>But Cole salvaged a 2-2 draw in the dying second, forcing the ball over the line in a packed six-yard box.<br><br>The evening proved eventful on and off the field with news emerging during the game that Brian Barwick, the chief executive of the Football Association, would be leaving his job at the end of the year.<br><br>Elsewhere, Wales lost 2-1 against Georgia in a friendly international in Swansea and it was goal-less at Hampden Park between Scotland and Northern Ireland after the Republic of Ireland earlier drew 1-1 with Norway.<br><br>In Swansea, the Georgians wore black armbands and linked hands - held aloft - when their anthem was played. Flags were waved from a small group of supporters who had made their way to Swansea for what was understandably an emotional occasion.<br><br>Wales took the lead after 16 minutes when Jason Koumas cracked in a vicious 25-yard shot that goalkeeper Giorgi Loria half-stopped, only to allow the ball to bounce out of his grasp and over the line.<br><br>But Georgia's desire for victory, given the nature of their war-torn country, was greater than Wales', and they equalised through Levan Kenia and then grabbed an injury-time winner through substitute Beka Gotsiridze.<br><br>At Hampden Park, it was clear right from the outset there would be nothing friendly about the international when God Save the Queen was jeered by the home crowd ahead of kick-off.<br><br>And George Burley was left still seeking his first win as Scotland coach heading into next month's World Cup qualifiers.<br><br>But at least Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor had saved his blushes by denying Northern Ireland striker David Healy from the penalty spot.<br><br>McGregor had been at fault, bringing down Warren Feeney to concede the spot-kick. The visitors had been reduced to ten men after Ryan McGivern's sending off for two yellow cards.<br><br>The home side dominated from then on until the final whistle but to no avail.
